5 Minutes Yoga Everyday

We could spend 3 hours a day doing poses, but  if we spend the rest of the day being stressed out, distracted, treating ourselves and others poorly, we would not be practicing yoga.

Breath = Life  The better you breathe, the more energy you will have. Taking deeper breaths will bring in more oxygen in to the body and improve your energy levels. Even 5 minutes of slow deep conscious breathing once or twice a day can make a huge difference.

Adho Mukha Svanasana The best all around yoga pose we know is Downward Facing Dog. Technically, downward dog is an inversion, which in terms of yoga simply means your head is below your heart. The benefits of inverting are many. If nothing else, being upside down shakes things up a bit. Inverting also triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, literally turning off our “flight” stress response. I think that is reason alone to do it! 5 deep breaths in this wonderful posture is said to reduce the acidity level of the body making it more alkaline reducing your risk many diseases.

Take a twist Ardha Matsyendrasana = Half Lord of the Fishes Pose. Full Spinal Twist position was the favourite meditation pose of the Sage Matsyendranath so this pose is named after him. However, as it is a little difficult to practice a simplified form Half Spinal Twist came about. Take a twist for healthy spine, back problems, digestive problems, treatment of diabetes, asthma, obesity, weight loss and many more.

Savasana = corpse pose Savasana is exactly what the name says, it always comes at the end of a practice and is meant to restore the body by doing absolute nothing and letting your body completely loose. It calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression. I can do wonders!

Awareness Before you resume your practice, come to a seat or to your knees and rest for a final moment, embracing feelings of peace and calm. Close your eyes and bring your hands to your heart in añjali (prayer) mudra, or simply place them one over another, palms facing your heart. Know that this peaceful place is always there for you to come to when you most need it.

Being aware of the moment is a great way to embrace yourself and build up your energy. The better you fell the better energy you will attract to yourself and that will produce great changes in your health and in your life!
